Pakistan Cricket in recent years has been completely unsettled with changes in its coaching staff. Jason Gillespie resigned as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team on December 13, 2024, marking another setback for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This follows the resignation of Gary Kirsten, who stepped down as the head coach of the limited-overs side just two months ago, citing issues with squad selection.

Gillespie’s resignation comes after facing similar challenges related to team management and selection. The PCB quickly appointed former Pakistan paceman Aaqib Javed as the interim head coach for the red-ball team. In a statement given, PCB said:

The PCB has named former Pakistan paceman Aaqib Javed as interim red-ball head coach following the resignation of Gillespie.

This marks the eighth coaching change in just over a year, with some coaches being sacked due to poor results while others, like Kirsten and Gillespie, resigned over disagreements with the board. The rapid turnover of coaching staff has sparked criticism, with fans and experts questioning the PCB’s management approach.
