For the IPL 2025 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is yet to decide on Virat Kohli’s potential return as captain. This follows the departure of Faf du Plessis, who led RCB for the past three seasons. Kohli previously captained the team from 2011 to 2021, leading them in 143 matches and securing 66 wins, but also facing 70 losses. Under his leadership, RCB reached the IPL final in 2016, with Kohli scoring a record-breaking 973 runs that season.

RCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rajesh Menon confirmed that the franchise has not yet finalized the captaincy decision for IPL 2025. He mentioned that the team has several potential leaders, with 4-5 players being considered for the role. Menon emphasized that RCB will carefully deliberate before making a final decision. He said:

Currently we have not decided anything. We have multiple leaders in the team. 4-5 leaders are there. We have not deliberated on what we need to do. We will deliberate, and we will come to a conclusion.

In the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB made strategic acquisitions, signing key players such as Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, among others. Menon praised the team’s balanced squad, which addresses gaps in their lineup, particularly in terms of the Indian core and bowling attack, essential for playing at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
