India vs Australia: Josh Hazlewood Blow Dents Australia’s Hopes in Crucial Gabba Test

Josh Hazlewood's calf soreness on Day 4 of the Gabba Test against India has dealt a blow to Australia's bowling attack. The pacer, who bowled just one over, had earlier dismissed Virat Kohli on Day 3. Hazlewood, with six wickets in three innings this series, remains doubtful for the remainder of the Test as medical scans await.

The third Test match between India and Australia is in full swing at the Gabba, Brisbane, but Australia has suffered a setback with Josh Hazlewood’s injury. The experienced pacer developed calf soreness during Day 4 and could bowl only one over before leaving the field. Earlier, Hazlewood had replaced Scott Boland in this match after missing the Pink Ball Test due to a side strain. Before his injury, he delivered a crucial performance, dismissing Virat Kohli on Day 3 and maintaining an average of 13.17 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with six wickets in three innings.

Australia’s first innings was highlighted by Travis Head’s aggressive 152 off 160 balls and Steve Smith’s steady century (101 runs), which powered them to a strong total of 445. Jasprit Bumrah stood out for India, claiming six wickets. However, to the Hazlewood’s injury, CA said:

Josh Hazlewood reported calf awareness in this morning’s warm-up. He will be taken for scans to assess the injury.

Currently, persistent rain has interrupted play and cast uncertainty over the result, with the match increasingly heading toward a draw. At the close of Day 3, India found themselves struggling at 51/4 after Australia’s pacers made early breakthroughs. Hazlewood’s injury now raises concerns for Australia’s bowling depth, and with scans pending, Scott Boland could potentially return for the next match. The injury leaves Australia short-handed as they aim to press for victory.
