India vs Australia: Harbhajan Questions Rohit’s Promotion Amid Poor Form, Calls for Changes in India’s XI for BGT 3rd Test
Harbhajan Singh expects India to retain their batting order with Rohit Sharma at No. 6 for the 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, starting December 14 in Brisbane. He suggests two bowling changes: Washington Sundar replacing Ravichandran Ashwin for better batting depth and Prasidh Krishna replacing Harshit Rana for extra bounce on Brisbane's track.
The loss against Australia in the 2nd Test at Adelaide by 10 wickets has prompted discussions about changes in India’s playing XI for the 3rd Test in Brisbane, starting December 14. Harbhajan Singh expects Rohit Sharma, who scored just 9 runs in two innings, to continue batting at No. 6 despite calls for his promotion.
He believes the opening duo of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a 201-run partnership in Perth but failed in Adelaide, will remain unchanged. He further said:
I don’t think there will be any change in the batting order. I feel the batting order will be like this only. We discussed yesterday on the show that Rohit Sharma should probably come up with the order. (Sunil) Gavaskar Sahab also said that, but I feel the team management will not think like that. They will probably go with the same kind of batting order that worked for them in Perth. Rohit is also not in great form. So why would you send him (Rohit) up the order when he is not in form? I feel you should start with KL Rahul and Yashasvi (Jaiswal) only, and Rohit should bat in the middle order.
In the bowling department, Harbhajan predicts two changes. He suggests Washington Sundar, who picked up two wickets and is a better batsman, may replace Ravichandran Ashwin. Additionally, Prasidh Krishna, known for his height and bounce, might come in for Harshit Rana, who went wicketless and scored a pair in Adelaide. These changes aim to strengthen India’s prospects as they seek to regain the lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, tied 1-1 after two Tests.
