India vs Australia: David Warner Criticizes Marnus Labuschagne’s Dismissal Despite Fighting 64 in 2nd BGT Test
Australia's David Warner criticized Marnus Labuschagne's gritty 64 in the second Test against India, claiming it benefitted from poor bowling. While Labuschagne contributed after scoring just 2 and 3 in the first Test, Warner highlighted his dismissal pattern, "hitting straight to gully". He backed Usman Khawaja (34 runs in two games) and Steve Smith (19 runs in three innings) to improve.
In the 2nd Test against India at the Adelaide Oval, Australia secured a convincing 10-wicket victory despite facing challenges in their first innings. The hosts heavily relied on Travis Head’s exceptional 140 and Marnus Labuschagne’s gritty 64, as the rest of the batting lineup faltered. Usman Khawaja has accumulated only 34 runs across two matches, while Steve Smith has managed just 19 runs in three innings, raising concerns about Australia’s top-order consistency.
Veteran opener David Warner expressed doubts about Labuschagne’s form despite his contribution to the match. Warner criticized Labuschagne’s innings, stating that it came under favorable conditions and due to poor Indian bowling, highlighting that Labuschagne’s tendency to get out after passing 50 remains an issue. He said:
I’m still not convinced with Marnus. I don’t think that was anywhere near what we know he’s capable of. Steve of late, I think a lot of teams have been bowling at his pads and down leg side. So I think from that perspective they’re trying to shut his scoring down quite a bit.
Warner also backed Khawaja and Smith, emphasizing their prior achievements and urging them to maintain a positive attitude and hard work. Despite their batting struggles, Australia’s bowling attack and Head’s brilliance ensured a dominant performance to take the lead in the series.
