India ended the first session of the Day-Night Test at 82/4 after choosing to bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for a duck on the first ball. KL Rahul scored 37 (64), while Shubman Gill added 31 (51). Mitchell Starc took 3/31 and Scott Boland 1/24. India’s run rate was 3.56. Rishabh Pant (4*) and Rohit Sharma (1*) remain unbeaten.
With the second Test between India and Australia currently underway at the Adelaide Oval, India chose to bat first but struggled to cope with Australia’s bowling attack. At the dinner break on Day 1, India was 82/4 after 23 overs, with a run rate of 3.56. Mitchell Starc was the star performer, claiming 3 wickets for 31 runs in his 8 overs, while Scott Boland chipped in with 1/24 in 7 overs.
The innings began disastrously for India as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball by Starc. KL Rahul (37 off 64) and Shubman Gill (31 off 51) steadied the ship with a 69-run partnership for the second wicket. However, once Rahul fell to Starc, India lost three wickets for just 12 runs. Virat Kohli managed only 7 runs before edging to Steven Smith off Starc’s bowling, and Gill fell leg-before to Boland shortly after.
Rishabh Pant (4* off 6) and skipper Rohit Sharma (1* off 10) were at the crease at the break. Australia’s bowlers, backed by a hard and grassy pitch, utilized the pink ball’s swing effectively. The match continues to be evenly poised, with India’s lower order yet to face Australia’s disciplined attack.
