IND vs AUS: Travis Head Shines as Rohit Sharma Faces Ravi Shastri’s Criticism for Defensive Tactics
Australia has taken control of the ongoing Test against India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. On Day 2, Travis Head and Steve Smith were the stars for the hosts, scoring brilliant centuries to strengthen their position in the match.
India is under pressure after the impressive performances of Travis Head and Steve Smith. Ravi Shastri and Michael Vaughan, both cricket experts, criticized India’s tactics on the day. They felt skipper Rohit Sharma was too defensive in his approach, which allowed Australia to dominate and gain a strong advantage in the match.
As Travis Head approached his century, he played a cut shot that flew past Virat Kohli, positioned square on the off side. Despite being just 20 meters away, Kohli couldn’t stop the ball due to its sheer force. Ravi Shastri wasn’t impressed with the field placement, feeling it didn’t effectively support the situation.
While commenting, Ravi Shastri criticized Rohit Sharma for being too cautious and avoiding the risk of going after Travis Head’s wicket. He felt India’s approach lacked aggression, allowing Head to score runs quickly despite the defensive strategy. He said:
When you see the field set, that can cost you big time. I mentioned some time ago that the idea might be to contain and see if a wicket comes, but you are not going to contain Australia setting this field. With these two players playing the way they are, and Head in particular, looking to get a boundary every over.
Ravi Shastri called out India’s cautious approach against Travis Head, while Michael Vaughan was puzzled by their constant change in tactics. He felt the team didn’t stick to one plan long enough, making it harder to put pressure on the Australian batter.
