Ian Chappell Raises Concerns Over Kohli and Rohit’s Ability to Tackle Australia’s Extra Bounce
Legendary cricketer Lan Chappell has raised doubts about whether India's senior batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, can handle Australia's famously bouncy pitches in Australia. With the Border Gavaskar Trophy approaching, Chappell expressed doubt about how well the experienced duo will adapt to the tough conditions posed by Australian pitches.
As India prepares to take on Australia in an exciting five match test series starting November 22 in Perth, attention is focused on batting stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both players are under pressure as they head into the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, following a disappointing performance in their recent series against New Zealand.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been struggling to score in test cricket for some time and their poor form is a big concern for the Indian team. Their disappointing performances in the recent test series against New Zealand have led fans and experts to wonder if they can perform well in Australia.
Lan Chappell while mentioning the major concern for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, said:
The only thing I’d say against that is they’re coming to Australia where the pitches are pretty good, but there’ll be the extra bounce, and if they have gone over the top then the extra bounce will find them out.
Youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have shown good form, but they will need to perform consistently to fill gaps left by senior players such as Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, who are no longer part of the test team. Consistency will be key for the young players to step up.
