The second match of the Big Bash League 2024-25 has finally ended with a thrilling victory for the Sydney Sixers, who defeated the Melbourne Renegades by five wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Chasing a target of 170, the Sixers reached 172/5 in just 18.3 overs, thanks to a stellar unbeaten knock of 53 runs off 27 balls by skipper Moises Henriques, who smashed four boundaries and three sixes, maintaining a blistering strike rate of 196.29.
Earlier, the Renegades posted 169/7 in their 20 overs, with Tim Seifert top-scoring with 55 runs off 42 balls, including six fours and one six. Will Sutherland, the captain, contributed a vital 36 not out off 28 balls. For the Sixers, Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis led the bowling attack, each picking up two wickets, while Joel Davies and Jack Edwards chipped in with one wicket apiece.
The Sixers’ chase started on a shaky note, losing Josh Philippe early, but crucial contributions from James Vince (40 off 29) and Jack Edwards (37 off 28) stabilized the innings.
