Temba Bavuma Ruled Out of WTC Final as Injury Shocker Hits South Africa Hard
South Africa’s Test captain Temba Bavuma is likely out of the WTC 2025 Final against Australia due to a recurring left elbow injury. He withdrew last minute from the CSA Four-Day Series final. With the final scheduled for June 11, his absence is a major blow. Bavuma hasn’t played since the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

After the latest setback, South African Test captain Temba Bavuma is reportedly in doubt for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final against Australia due to a recurring left elbow injury. Initially expected to lead the Lions in the CSA Four-Day Series Division 1 final against the Titans on April 10 at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium, Bavuma was withdrawn last minute after his old elbow issue flared up. The injury has sidelined him from competitive cricket since the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
Clearly, the left elbow, previously fractured in 2022, has continued to trouble Bavuma. That same injury had ruled him out of the England tour and later resurfaced during an ODI against Ireland. He has also faced hamstring concerns over the years. Despite these challenges, he had made a successful return during South Africa’s recent home season, scoring two centuries and three fifties in just four Tests.
With the WTC final scheduled for June 11, South Africa has around two months to prepare. While many national players are active in IPL 2025 or county cricket, Bavuma remains unattached but now faces a race against time to recover. His availability will be crucial as South Africa chases its first WTC title.
