Star Kiwi Batter Surpassed 9000 Test Runs Landmark, Virat Kohli Trails as Slowest Among Fab Four

Kane Williamson became the first New Zealand cricketer to surpass 9000 Test runs and the second-fastest among the "Fab Four," behind Steve Smith. While maintaining the second-best batting average among his peers, Williamson continues to prioritize family, stepping away from a central contract but committing to Blackcaps selection when available.

New Zealand’s veteran batsman Kane Williamson has registered his name in cricket history by becoming the first Kiwi to surpass 9000 Test runs. Achieving this milestone during the ongoing Test against England in Christchurch, Williamson also became the second-fastest to reach the mark among the “Fab Four” of modern cricket, which includes Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Steve Smith. Smith retains the record for the quickest ascent to this landmark.

Williamson boasts the second-best average among the quartet at 54.89, trailing Smith’s 57.32 but ahead of Root (50.62) and Kohli (49.15). Known for his calm on-field approach and strong batting technicalities, Williamson has remained a cornerstone of New Zealand cricket for over a decade.

Despite his monumental achievements, Williamson is embracing a balanced approach to cricket and life. Following New Zealand’s early exit from the T20 World Cup, he stepped down as white-ball captain and recently declined a central contract for the 2024-25 season. Explaining his decision, Williamson stated:

Pursuing an overseas opportunity during the New Zealand summer means I’m unable to accept a central contract offer. My life outside cricket has changed however – spending more time with my family and enjoying experiences with them at home or abroad is something that’s even more important to me.

However, Williamson remains committed to New Zealand cricket, assuring his availability for international matches, barring a brief January window when limited domestic or international fixtures are scheduled. His ability to balance personal and professional commitments underscores his standing as not just a player but a role model for the cricketing world.
