As the T20 Mumbai League gears up for its 2025 edition from May 26 to June 5, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has introduced major changes to bolster the tournament’s appeal and competitiveness. Rohit Sharma has been named the face of the league, while Indian stars such as Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Shivam Dube have been mandated to participate, provided they are not on the England tour.

The MCA has also added two new teams, expanding the league to eight franchises. Over 2,800 players have registered for the player auction, reflecting massive local interest. To incentivize national players, the MCA is offering a ₹15 lakh participation fee, separate from auction earnings. MCA secretary Abhay Hadap expressed excitement over the overwhelming response, calling it a sign of Mumbai’s deep cricketing passion.

Players like Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, and Shardul Thakur are also expected to join unless ruled out by injury or international duty. Rohit Sharma, currently playing a limited role for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, remains under scrutiny regarding his Test captaincy after India’s 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The league aims to nurture future talent while showcasing top-tier Indian cricketers post-IPL.
