New Zealand Takes Control with 299-Run Lead at Lunch on Day 3

At the end of the first session on Day 3, New Zealand leads by 299 runs, reaching 345 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Rachin Ravindra has been the standout performer, scoring 104 runs off just 125 balls. Meanwhile, Tim Southee has contributed 39 runs from 50 balls, helping solidify New Zealand's commanding position.

In the first test match between India and New Zealand at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the visitors have taken a total command of the match by scoring 345 runs with the loss of 7 wickets in the first innings and have assembled a lead of 299 runs by the end of the first session on the 3rd day. Rachin Ravindra blasted his 2nd Test Century of his career in 124 balls. New Zealand made an impressive 165 runs in the first session, thanks to a strong partnership of 112 runs between Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee off just 97 balls.

Southee hit three sixes during his innings, bringing his total to 91 sixes in Test cricket, which ties him with Virender Sehwag’s career record. At the start of the Day, Mohammed Siraj picked the wicket of Daryl Mitchell who walked back with just 18 runs to his name. The second wicket fell when Tom Blundell managed only 5 runs before being caught by KL Rahul. Shortly after, Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry were dismissed at regular intervals by Ravindra Jadeja, leaving the team at 233-7.

India’s Struggles in the First Innings

In the first innings of the match, the Indian team won the toss and chose to bat first. However, Rohit Sharma’s decision quickly backfired as the team collapsed under challenging swinging conditions. Tim Southee, Matt Henry, and Will O’Rourke bowled exceptionally well, leading to the Indian side being all out for just 46 runs.

This trio claimed all 10 wickets, with Rishabh Pant emerging as the highest run-scorer for India, contributing only 20 runs to the total. The performance was a disappointing start for the team.
