Karachi Kings Set for Major Shake-Up: Shan Masood to Be Removed as Captain for PSL 2025

Karachi Kings are likely to sack Shan Masood as captain after a poor PSL 2024, where they finished fifth with just four wins. Masood struggled with 158 runs in 10 matches at 15.80 average. Coach Phil Simmons is also stepping down due to Bangladesh commitments. A fresh leadership group is expected soon.

For the Karachi Kings, PSL 2025 is set to begin with major changes as reports suggest both captain Shan Masood and head coach Phil Simmons will be replaced. After switching from Multan Sultans, Masood was given leadership in PSL 2024, but the move backfired. Karachi Kings managed only four wins in 10 games, finishing fifth. Masood’s personal form added to the woes — he scored just 158 runs in 10 matches at a poor average of 15.80, failing to lead from the front. With top-order stars like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Litton Das, and Tim Seifert already in the squad, Masood’s position in the playing XI now looks uncertain.

Adding to the shake-up, head coach Phil Simmons is stepping down due to his commitments with the Bangladesh national team, who are considering him for a long-term role. Simmons had joined Karachi Kings in 2023, bringing experience, but his tenure will now end amicably.

With PSL 2025 starting on April 11 and Karachi Kings facing Multan Sultans on April 12, the timing of this leadership overhaul looks perfect. The franchise hopes a new captain and coach can change their fortunes after years of underwhelming performances. The big question remains — who will take over the reins of the struggling side?
