Mumbai Indians let go of Robin Uthappa before the 2009 IPL season and he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He played for RCB during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, contributing to some important performances for the team during his time there.

Robin Uthappa shared details about his move from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bengaluru after IPL 2008. He revealed that he never felt a sense of belonging with RCB at any point during his time with the team. He said:

I didn’t feel at any point that I belong to RCB. My loyalties all lied with Mumbai Indians. And for me, because that was the first time we Indians were playing professional cricket, we didn’t know what moving from club to club was, we didn’t know what transfers were outside of what we heard about the EPL.

Robin Uthappa revealed that he remained loyal to the Mumbai Indians even after leaving the team following the 2008 IPL season. It’s worth mentioning that Uthappa represented Mumbai Indians in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008 and his connection with the franchise stayed strong despite moving to another team.

Robin Uthappa said his loyalty stayed with Mumbai Indians even after he left the team. He explained that, as player transfers were a new concept, it was hard for players to adapt and show loyalty to a new franchise.
