IPL 2025: Ben Stokes Explains Absence from Auction and Prioritising England Career
Ben Stokes, the captain of England's Test cricket team, explained that he chose not to register for the IPL 2025 auction because he wanted to focus on playing for England for as long as possible and take care of his body.
The IPL Auction 2025 took place on Monday, November 25 and saw several records being broken. While many top players participated and secured huge deals, one notable exception was Ben Stokes, one of the biggest match-winners, who did not feature in the auction despite his reputation.
According to a new rule, Ben Stokes, considered one of the best all-rounders, won’t be playing in the IPL until 2026. The rules states that players who have previously played in the league but did not register for the mega auction are not allowed to register for the next mini auction.
Ben Stokes has had a significant impact in the IPL, having played for Rising Pune Supergiant, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Given his skills and reputation, it’s likely that he would have attracted a huge bid at the auction if he had registered to play this year.
Ben Stokes, one of the highest-paid players in the IPL when Chennai Super Kings bought him, missed most of the matches that season due to injury. Later, he decided to sit out the 2024 season to manage his workload and focus on staying fit for other commitments.
