Injury Setbacks for South Africa, Ngidi Ruled Out, Bavuma’s Return Uncertain Ahead of Sri Lanka Test Series
A groin injury has sidelined Lungi Ngidi for the next two series, which is a big setback for South Africa, especially in test matches. His absence creates a significant gap in the bowling lineup as the Proteas push for a place in the ICC World Test Championship final. Missing Ngidi’s skill and experience will undoubtedly affect the team’s chances in these crucial games.
During a routine medical assessment in his conditioning program, scans revealed that Lungi Ngidi has bilateral proximal adductor tendinopathy. This injury will keep him off the field for a while, as he now begins his rehabilitation process. If all goes well, Ngidi is expected to recover and be ready for a return to cricket in January.
Ahead of the test series against Sri Lanka, there is an update on Temba Bavuma’s recovery. The Test captain is making good progress and a final decision about his participation will be made after the completion of a fitness test. His return would strengthen the team and everyone is hopeful for a positive outcome from the assessment.
South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, injured the soft tissue in his left elbow during the second ODI against Ireland. The injury happened in the 12th over when he landed on his elbow while reaching the non-striker end. Since then, Bavuma has been out of action, recovering from the injury.
