IND vs NZ | Aakash Chopra Questions Non-Usage of Ashwin on Day 5
Cricket analyst Aakash Chopra questions Rohit Sharma about the avoidance of Ravichandran Ashwin during the 5th day of India vs New Zealand's first test. Ashwin bowled just two overs in the last innings of the game, where New Zealand was able to secure the win by 8 wickets.
India lost their first Test match against New Zealand by 8 wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After having a shaky start in the first innings, being all out at 46, India was able to set up 462 runs in their next innings. This gave the Kiwis a target of 107 runs to chase, for which they had a lot of time.
Unfortunately, India lost the game by 8 wickets, with both wickets being taken by Jasprit Bumrah. He bowled a long spell along with Mohammad Siraj, who is another pace bowler in the team. It was expected by the fans and analysts that Ravichandran Ashwin will come out in the next spell, but Captain Rohit Sharma bought down Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
Although Ashwin was a bit expensive in the first innings of the game, Aakash Chopra said that he could have helped the team to get the breakthrough in the last innings of the game. The analyst said that Sharma could have gone with Ashwin, as he holds a tremendous record when it comes to the fourth innings.
Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel said that:
“No doubt the runs were less but we didn’t get Ashwin to bowl at all. I am not saying we would have won the match if Ashwin had bowled but we didn’t get him to bowl. That was surprising and how.”
