‘I’ll Miss Dhoni, But Wankhede Suits Me’, Deepak Chahar on Move to MI
Deepak Chahar, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer, joins arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 9.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The move marks a major shift for the seamer, who looks forward to leveraging Wankhede's pacer-friendly pitch, while expressing his bittersweet departure from CSK and mentor MS Dhoni.
The IPL 2025 auction has brought significant changes to team dynamics, with many prominent players switching franchises. Among the most notable moves is Indian pacer Deepak Chahar joining the Mumbai Indians (MI) for a hefty INR 9.25 crore. This shift is particularly remarkable as Chahar had been a pivotal figure for Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2024, winning hearts and titles under the legendary MS Dhoni.
Chahar, who will now play in the blue and gold of MI, acknowledged the emotional impact of leaving CSK. Speaking to former teammate Suresh Raina on Jio Cinema, Chahar expressed his admiration for Dhoni and the bond they shared, admitting he would miss his former captain dearly. He said:
“Every time I talk to Rahul (Chahar), I say you are playing for the team I should be playing for, and I am playing for the team you should be playing for, skill-wise. Because in Chennai, there is help for the spinners and in Mumbai for pacers. He could not come to Chennai, but I am going to Mumbai. So, I will get that advantage.”
