Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, talked about the team’s playing 11 for the second test match against New Zealand, which will be played in Pune. During the conference, he also hinted that KL Rahul will be a part of the team in the second game also. Although Rahul gave a disappointing performance in the first game, the team still considers him in the next one.

The second Test match will be played from 24 October, at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium. Currently, the Indian cricket team is trailing in the series by 0-1, as the team looks forward to rebound in the upcoming match. The remaining two test games against New Zealand will be crucial for the team to almost seal their spot for the World Test Championship final, which will be held in The Lords.

When talking about the playing 11 of the team in the press conference, Gautam Gambhir even talked about the challenges being faced during the process, also calling it a difficult decision. He also said that it is great to have competition due to which the team is able to come out on the top. Gautam Gambhir told the reporters by saying that,

“In any Test match, picking up a playing XI is always tough. It is always good to have competition.”

Gambhir on Rahul’s Performance

Various reporters even asked Gautam Gambhir about the criticism being faced by KL Rahul after the first game and his selection for the upcoming match. Gambhir reacted calmly to the same, saying that the social media reactions do not affect the management of the team, and added by saying that Rahul has been well even on challenging pitches like Kanpur.

Gambhir said to the reporters,

“Social media doesn’t decide playing XI. It is not important what social media or experts think, it is important what team management thinks. He had a decent knock in a tough Kanpur pitch. Yes, he would want to score big runs. And this team management is looking to back him.”
