Dinesh Karthik Talks About Rohit and Kohli’s Future and India’s Struggles Against Spin
Following the India-New Zealand test series, one question has consistently surfaced in Indian cricket, what lies ahead for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli? Fans and analysis alike are curious about the future of these star players and how they fit into India's long-term plans.
Dinesh Karthik was asked if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should retire from test cricket, but he believes one poor series isn’t enough to discuss their retirement. Instead, he suggests giving both players ten more tests. If they struggle in these matches, Karthik feels there may then be calls for their retirement.
Dinesh Karthik commented on the recent India-New Zealand Test Series, saying:
What is the hurry boss? One bad series and already calling for the heads. I don’t think so. I think, if they don’t do well in the next 10 Test matches, then we will come back to this question and then it becomes a fair question, considering it’s going to be another domestic season. For the moment, I don’t think we need to group anyone anywhere.
In the test series against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma made 91 runs across three matches, averaging 15.16, while Virat Kohli scored 93 runs at an average of 15.50. Both players managed just one half-century each over six innings, highlighting a challenging series for them.
India’s recent struggle against spin bowling has raised concerns. The batters found it tough to handle New Zealand’s spinners, even in familiar conditions. Dinesh Karthik acknowledged this weakness, saying the rise in white-ball games has hurt India’s defensive skills, making it harder for batters to face opposition spinners.
