Big Bash League 2024-25: RCB’s New Power Hitter Struggles in BBL Opener with “Silver Duck”
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's recruit Tim David had a disappointing start to the 2024-25 Big Bash League, being dismissed for a duck in his opening game. Representing Hobart Hurricanes, David faltered under pressure as the team crumbled to 74 all out against the Melbourne Renegades, with standout performances from the Renegades’ bowlers.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s marquee signing, Tim David, endured a tough beginning to his Big Bash League 2024-25 campaign, failing to score in his first outing. Purchased for a hefty INR 3 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, David stepped in for the Hobart Hurricanes against the Melbourne Renegades but couldn’t deliver when his team needed him most.
The Hurricanes found themselves in dire straits at 31-4 within just 4.3 overs. Walking to the crease under immense pressure, David was expected to steady the ship. However, his innings lasted only two balls. Facing a precise delivery from Fergus O’Neill, pitched in the corridor of uncertainty, David nicked it to wicketkeeper Tim Seifert, departing for a duck and leaving the Hurricanes reeling at 32-5.
The Hurricanes’ woes continued as the team folded for a paltry 74 runs in just 12.4 overs. Captain Nathan Ellis provided the only resistance, scoring 35 off 29 balls, while the rest of the lineup failed to withstand the disciplined bowling attack of the Melbourne Renegades. Fergus O’Neill and Thomas Stewart Rogers claimed three wickets each, with skipper Will Sutherland also picking up three, and Adam Zampa adding one to seal the dominant win.
Tim David’s faltering start will raise concerns among RCB fans who hoped for stellar performances ahead of the IPL season. However, the talented all-rounder has enough time to find his form and make his mark in the BBL.
