The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has published its 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on December 8 in St. Kitts. With regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto ruled out due to a groin injury, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the team, marking his debut as captain in ODIs.

The squad will also miss the services of Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy, both sidelined with injuries. Shanto and Rahim were already absent from the Test series. In the statement, BCB stated:

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury. Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed….. we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play

Shakib Al Hasan, another prominent all-rounder, continues his break from ODI cricket, having also missed the Afghanistan series in November. Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman opted out to be with his wife, who is expecting their first child.

Returning to the squad are Liton Das, Afif Hossain, and Parvez Hossain Emon, with the latter making his comeback after last featuring in the 2021 series against the West Indies. Hasan Mahmud and Tanzim Sakib also strengthen the bowling lineup, while Zakir Hasan and left-arm pacer Nahid Rana miss out.

The ODI series, featuring matches on December 8, 10, and 12, will take place at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Bangladesh aims to regroup with this mix of young talent and experienced players as they face the West Indies in challenging away conditions.
