Being the one player whose jersey he had always wanted but never owned, Jos Buttler finally received a signed shirt from Rohit Sharma after the conclusion of the India versus England ODI series at Lord’s. The England wicketkeeper batter later shared a picture of the signed jersey on social media and revealed the memorable story behind the exchange.
Buttler admitted he felt nervous approaching Rohit because of the Indian captain’s stature in world cricket and did not want to interrupt him, especially when he was on an important phone call. Earlier in the series, India’s team manager had already requested Buttler’s jersey for Rohit, so the English star visited the Indian dressing room to hand it over. After learning Rohit was away for a post-match interview, Buttler waited in the hope of meeting him before leaving.
He eventually spotted Rohit in the Long Room while the Indian batter was on a call. Despite the timing, Buttler politely asked if he could have Rohit’s jersey. Rohit immediately apologized, ended the call, and happily agreed to the request before adding a personal message to the shirt. England won the three-match ODI series 2-1, while Rohit scored a brilliant 138 off 110 balls in the final ODI and Buttler blasted 41 runs from just 13 deliveries.
