Urvil Patel Joins Chennai Super Kings as Mid-Season Replacement
Chennai Super Kings have reportedly signed Gujarat batter Urvil Patel as a replacement for the injured Vansh Bedi. Patel, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, smashed a record-breaking 28-ball century recently and has scored 315 runs in 6 innings at an average of 78.75. CSK is yet to officially confirm the signing.

When the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced yet another injury setback with Vansh Bedi ruled out, the franchise reportedly signed Gujarat batter Urvil Patel as a mid-season replacement. Though there’s no official confirmation yet, Urvil’s brother, Harshil Patel, indirectly confirmed the development by posting a celebratory Instagram story. According to reports, Urvil will play the final three matches of IPL 2025 as an opening partner to 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, another mid-season CSK addition.

Urvil Patel, 26, went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega-auction despite registering with a base price of INR 30 lakhs. However, he caught attention shortly after by smashing a record-breaking 28-ball century — the fastest by an Indian in T20 cricket. His recent form has been exceptional, scoring 315 runs in just six innings at an average of 78.75, including two centuries.
CSK has already brought in players like Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre mid-season, signalling a dynamic, youth-driven strategy. The team is yet to officially announce Urvil’s inclusion, but if confirmed, his explosive batting could offer a major boost in CSK’s remaining IPL campaign. The franchise continues to back emerging talent to fill crucial gaps left by injuries.
