Shocking Update as CSK’s ₹13 Crore Star Matheesha Pathirana Likely Ruled Out of IPL 2025!

Chennai Super Kings face a major setback as reports suggest Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana might miss IPL 2025 due to injury. Retained for ₹13 crore, Pathirana was absent in CSK’s opener. With 34 wickets in 20 IPL games, his potential exit leaves a huge void in CSK’s death bowling attack.

For the CSK team, IPL 2025 has begun with both a victory and a major setback. While CSK defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets in their season opener, concerns grew over the absence of their star pacer Matheesha Pathirana. Retained for a massive ₹13 crore, Pathirana did not feature in the playing XI, raising eyebrows among fans. Reports now suggest that Pathirana might miss the entire IPL 2025 season due to an injury, though CSK has not made any official announcement.

Pathirana has been a crucial player for CSK since joining in 2022, known for his deadly yorkers and death-over expertise. He has taken 34 wickets in just 20 IPL matches at an impressive economy rate of 7.8. In the 2024 season alone, he picked up 19 wickets before a hamstring injury cut his campaign short. Internationally, the Sri Lankan speedster has bagged 30 wickets in 19 T20Is and 17 wickets in 12 ODIs.

In Pathirana’s absence, CSK replaced him with Australian pacer Nathan Ellis, who conceded 38 runs and took one wicket. Noor Ahmad, their ₹10 crore signing, delivered a match-winning spell of 4/18. However, losing Pathirana could weaken CSK’s death bowling, potentially impacting their title hopes this season.
