PSL 2025: PSL Eyes Unsold IPL Stars as PCB Considers Bold Moves Ahead of 2024 Draft
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) targets unsold players from the IPL 2025 auction to strengthen its squad for the 2024 edition. Notable unsold players include Steven Smith, David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Jonny Bairstow. Additionally, the PCB may follow the BCCI’s lead by hosting the PSL draft abroad, potentially in London or Dubai, to enhance the league's international exposure.
With the Pakistan Super League (PSL) just around the corner, the league is reportedly eyeing unsold players from the recent IPL 2025 mega auction to fill its roster for the upcoming edition. The PSL is typically held in February and March, just before the IPL, but due to Pakistan hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in early 2025, the PSL will now be scheduled for March-April, coinciding with the IPL’s start on March 14.
This change has left PSL franchise owners with a dilemma, as many top international players are already signed to IPL teams. As a result, the PSL is turning to cricketers who went unsold in the IPL auction. Notable unsold players include David Warner, Steven Smith, Kane Williamson, Adil Rashid, Jonny Bairstow, and others. The PSL franchise owners have reportedly urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reach out to these players’ agents and respective boards to confirm their availability.
Additionally, the PCB is considering following the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) lead by holding the PSL 2024 draft outside Pakistan, possibly in locations like London or Dubai, to gain international exposure for the league. This move mirrors the BCCI’s decision to hold IPL auctions abroad in recent years.
