IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant’s Emotional Exit and Delhi Capitals Auction Decisions
Rishabh Pant was released before the IPL 2025 mega auction because he didn't take feedback positively, according to Parth Jindal. The Delhi Capitals co-owner mentioned that Pant's decision was emotional, which led the team to move on.
During the IPL 2025 mega auction, multiple teams competed to sign the 27-year-old star Rishabh Pant who broke the record for the highest-ever bid in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants signed him for Rs 27 crore, beating the previous record set by Shreyas Iyer’s Rs 26.75 crore deal with Punjab Kings.
Parth Jindal shared that Rishabh Pant’s release was a joint decision by the team’s owners after several talks with him. They gave him honest feedback about his performance, but Pant didn’t respond positively to it. Parth said:
No, I do not think it is about ownership here. I think we were very aligned as an ownership group. It was a collective decision that was taken. We had a lot of discussions with Rishabh. There were things that we expected of Rishabh that we did not get last season or in the previous seasons, and we gave him honest feedback on that.
The franchise respected Rishabh Pant’s decision and while they initially agreed not to bid for him in the auction, they still made an effort to bring him back. However, his price in the auction went too high, which ultimately led to their decision not to retain him.
