ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Wasim Akram’s Insight on Pakistan Hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Amid Tensions and Optimism
Wasim Akram shared his thoughts on Pakistan hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set for February-March. He expressed confidence that Pakistan is prepared to host the prestigious tournament, even though there are uncertainties about the event's future.
Wasim Akram surprised fans by appearing at a Coke Studio show in Dubai to promote the Champions Trophy 2025. Carrying the trophy, he placed it on a platform and greeted the audience with “assalamualaikum”. Akram entered the stage after Faris Shafi’s performance and was met with loud cheers and applause from the crowd.
Wasim Akram expressed gratitude to the audience for their energetic support and highlighted the passionate spirit of Pakistanis. He confirmed that the Champions Trophy 2025 will take place in Pakistan and assured everyone that the country is fully prepared to host the prestigious tournament. He said:
I would like to thank everyone. Your passion is typical Pakistani passion. This is the Champions Trophy which is happening in Pakistan. Pakistan is ready to host the Champions Trophy.
Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy 2025 starting February 19, but a hybrid hosting model will be used, with India not traveling to Pakistan. India’s matches are expected to be played in Dubai, while the final schedule is yet to be confirmed by the ICC.
The hybrid hosting model for the event was adopted following discussions between the ICC, PCB, and other stakeholders, driven by political tensions and security concerns. It aims to balance the interests of both cricketing powerhouses.
