Heinrich Klaasen’s ₹23 Crore Deal Might Place Three Captains in Auction Pool

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be paying 23 crores INR to Heinrich Klaasen as the team's first retention, causing challenges to the other teams. Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant are likely to enter Mega Auction.

Just as the IPL retention deadline comes closer for the teams, Sunrisers Hyderabad might have caused troubles for the remaining teams. The team will be giving 23 crores INR to Heinrich Klaasen as the first retention, 18 crores INR to Pat Cummins as the first retention, and 14 crores INR to Abhishek Sharma as their third retention.

Due to this increase in the retention price, various other players could also demand high prices for their retention. According to several reports, Klaasen is getting 23 crores as the first retention, which is the primary reason why players and the franchise are not able to confirm their retention status with the team.

As the retention enters the last week, the teams are still struggling to get them and players at the commonplace and retain them, which has caused a delay in the retention list. It has also been reported that various Indian players are now willing to enter the Mega Auction, ahead of IPL 2025 season.

In some reports, a franchise said,

Once it became clear that Klaasen was being retained for Rs 23 crore, a lot of equations changed on the negotiation table. There is no compulsion to follow the pay slab, so there has been a lot of back and forth. And Indian players are even checking their market value before committing to retention. There is plenty of demand and players know it. They are checking with other franchises if they will show interest. Even if two franchises show interest, they could end up getting a higher bid than what their current team is offering.
