In the latest IPL controversy, England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from his contract with Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2025 season, making himself unavailable for the second consecutive year. The 26-year-old cited the need to recharge after a hectic career phase and focus on England’s upcoming home Test series against India in June, followed by the Ashes from November to January.
Brook issued an apology to Delhi Capitals and their fans, stating that playing for his country remains his priority. His decision, however, puts him at risk of a two-year IPL ban, as per BCCI regulations. The rule states that any foreign player who withdraws after being picked at the auction — unless due to injury — faces exclusion from IPL participation and future auctions for the next two seasons.
Brook had also missed the 2024 IPL season following the death of his grandmother. His absence leaves Delhi Capitals in a difficult position ahead of the tournament starting on March 22. If the ban is enforced, Brook will be ineligible for IPL until 2027. His withdrawal has sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting his national team commitment while others criticize his repeated unavailability.
