CSK Sign Dewald Brevis for INR 2.2 Crore as Gurjapneet’s Replacement
Chennai Super Kings have signed South African batter Dewald Brevis for INR 2.2 Crore as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis, 21, has a T20 strike rate of 145 and was the best batter in SA20 2025 with a 184.17 strike rate. He replaces Gurjapneet Singh and joins a struggling CSK side.

For the Chennai Super Kings, the signing of Dewald Brevis marks a bold move as they look to recover from a disappointing start to IPL 2025. Brevis replaces injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh and joins as the second replacement player this season after Ayush Mhatre stepped in for regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite having a base price of INR 75 lakh at last year’s auction, CSK secured the 21-year-old South African for INR 2.2 crore, utilizing their remaining overseas slot.
Brevis, nicknamed “Baby AB” for his playing style similar to AB de Villiers, has already featured in 81 T20s with a strong strike rate close to 145. In this year’s SA20 league, he stood out among the top 10 run-scorers with the highest strike rate of 184.17. Though he has limited international exposure with South Africa, his domestic form for the Titans in both List A and first-class formats has been impressive.
Brevis previously played 10 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians and continues to represent MI in MLC and SA20. He now joins a CSK side struggling at the bottom of the table with only two wins at the halfway stage. Their next challenge is a high-stakes clash against the Mumbai Indians on April 20 at the Wankhede.
