Jasprit Bumrah Fitness Worries Put India Champions Trophy Plans at Risk

India Champions Trophy hopes are uncertain as Jasprit Bumrah struggles with a back injury. Despite consultations with Dr. Rowan Schouten and plans for further treatment in New Zealand, his recovery before next month's tournament appears unlikely. The BCCI is considering backups like Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj, while Bumrah's presence remains critical for India’s bowling strength.

For the ICC Champions Trophy, set to return after eight years in Pakistan and Dubai next month, India’s hopes of clinching the title are under a cloud due to Jasprit Bumrah’s uncertain fitness. Bumrah, who has been struggling with a persistent back injury since the final Test against Australia in Sydney, is unlikely to achieve full fitness in time for the tournament.

The pacer is consulting with Dr Rowan Schouten, a renowned specialist in New Zealand, and the BCCI plans for him to travel there for further treatment. However, the timeline for this trip remains unclear, and sources suggest it would be a “miracle” if Bumrah recovers fully in time.

As a backup plan, the BCCI is considering other bowlers such as Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj for the Champions Trophy squad. Bumrah’s fitness will be assessed based on Dr. Schouten’s feedback. Meanwhile, India’s squad for an upcoming ODI series against England, which includes Rana, has already been announced.

If Bumrah is unable to play, Rana may be called up for the Champions Trophy. Bumrah’s absence would be a significant blow to India’s bowling attack, and his participation remains uncertain as the tournament approaches.
