Australia has been dealt with a major blow as their star pacer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a calf injury. Hazlewood sustained the injury during Day 4 of the third Test against India at the Gabba, which saw his pace drop significantly, leading to his removal from the field. This injury has also forced him to miss the final two Tests of the series.

In addition to his international commitments, Hazlewood is looking to make a return in time for the 2025 IPL season. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought Hazlewood for INR 12.5 crore, banking on his experience and skill in the fast-bowling department. Hazlewood, who previously played for RCB, is expected to form a potent seam attack with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the upcoming IPL season. Over 27 IPL matches, Hazlewood has taken 35 wickets with an economy rate of 8.06.

Hazlewood’s immediate goal is to recover fully in time for the Sri Lanka series, which concludes by February 10, before focusing on his IPL comeback. RCB will be hopeful that their star pacer will return to peak fitness to help the team in their pursuit of a maiden IPL title in 2025.
