In the upcoming third ODI against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is just 13 runs away from becoming the second-fastest batter to reach 11,000 runs in ODIs. Currently, Virat Kohli holds the record, achieving the milestone in 222 innings, while Rohit has batted 259 times in 267 ODIs since his debut against Ireland on June 23, 2007.

Rohit was in sensational form in the second ODI at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, scoring 119 off 90 balls, including 12 fours and 7 sixes, helping India chase down a 305-run target in 44.3 overs. If he scores a century in the third ODI, he will join Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli as the only Indian batters with 50 international centuries. Tendulkar retired with 100 centuries in 664 matches, while Kohli has 81 in 544 matches.

Fastest to 11,000 Runs in ODIs

  • Virat Kohli (India) – 222;
  • Sachin Tendulkar (India) – 276;
  • Ricky Ponting (Australia, ICC) – 286;
  • Sourav Ganguly (India, Asia) – 288;
  • Jacques Kallis (South Africa, ICC, Africa) – 293.

Additionally, Rohit recently surpassed Chris Gayle’s 331 ODI sixes and is now chasing Shahid Afridi’s all-time record of 351 sixes. If he hits 14 more in Ahmedabad, he will claim the top spot. As India aims for a series win, all eyes will be on Rohit to achieve these historic milestones.
