For the England cricket team, the upcoming ODI series against India is set to be challenging as they face significant setbacks. Keeper-batter Jamie Smith has been ruled out for the first two matches due to a calf injury, though he is expected to return for the final game and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With Smith unavailable, either Jos Buttler or Phil Salt is likely to take on the wicketkeeping duties.

Additionally, Jofra Archer will miss one of the three ODIs, playing only two matches, while Saqib Mahmood is confirmed to feature in the first ODI. Rehan Ahmed, initially not part of the ODI squad, has been asked to stay with the team throughout the series. This series is crucial for both teams ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which begins in February.

England’s recent ODI performances have been disappointing, as they struggled in the 2023 ICC World Cup and have lost three consecutive series, including setbacks against West Indies and Australia. They will look to bounce back with a strong showing against India, who are also keen to secure a victory in the series. The series begins on February 6th in Nagpur.
