Champions Trophy 2025 due to chest muscular pain. The injury occurred during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand on February 19 at the National Stadium in Karachi. Scans revealed no positive signs of recovery, preventing Fakhar from travelling to Dubai for the highly anticipated clash against India on February 23.
To fill the void, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) are set to officially announce Imam-ul-Haq as Fakhar’s replacement. Imam, an experienced opener with over 2,800 ODI runs at an average of 50+, brings stability to the top order. His inclusion aims to strengthen Pakistan’s batting lineup as they look to bounce back after their 60-run defeat to New Zealand.
Fakhar’s absence is a blow, considering his aggressive batting style and past success in ICC tournaments, including his match-winning century against India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. With the India-Pakistan clash being a crucial encounter for both teams’ progression, Imam’s performance will be vital for Pakistan’s hopes of advancing further in the tournament.
