Fakhar Zaman, after recovering from health issues, expressed confidence about his return to Pakistan's national team for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The 34-year-old, key to Pakistan's 2017 Champions Trophy win, recently impressed in domestic T20 cricket, scoring 303 runs at a strike rate of 132.31.
After being sidelined from the Pakistan team for over a year, Fakhar Zaman is confident of making a strong comeback for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The left-handed opener, who last played for Pakistan during the 2022 T20 World Cup, revealed that his absence was due to a medical condition, which affected his fitness. Zaman, who had been excluded from Pakistan’s central contract, expressed his assurance of being fully fit and ready to represent his country once again. He said:
People don’t know that after the T20 World Cup, I got sick. I was not part of the team because of my medical condition, but now (I’m) 100% (sure) I will play for Pakistan.
Zaman has been a key figure in Pakistan’s cricket history, notably starring in the 2017 Champions Trophy, where he scored a crucial century in the final against India. His return to form was evident in the domestic Champions Cup T20 tournament, where he scored 303 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 132.31. Despite some friction with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over fitness concerns, Zaman is determined to make an impact in the upcoming Champions Trophy, adding depth to Pakistan’s lineup alongside key players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
