Champions Trophy 2025: Could the Pakistan Cricket Board’s New Proposal Bring India to Pakistan?
The Pakistan Cricket Board has put forth a new proposal to the Indian Cricket Team regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy. The plan suggests that the Indian team visit Pakistan for their matches and return to India—either Chandigarh or Delhi—after each game, ensuring they don't stay in Pakistan due to security concerns.
As part of its efforts to host the Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board is exploring all options to facilitate the Indian team’s participation. They’ve presented a new proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), suggesting that the Indian team could return to India, either Chandigarh or Delhi after each match. This arrangement aims to alleviate any security concerns, allowing the Indian players to avoid staying in Pakistan if they prefer not to.
The Indian team has firmly stated that they are unwilling to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, advocating for a hybrid model instead. Additionally, broadcasters have expressed their preference for India to participate in the tournament, emphasizing the importance of the Indian team being present for the matches to maintain viewership and engagement.
India’s Schedule in the Champions Trophy 2025
In the Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian team has been kept in the Group that consists of teams like Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan who are hosting the tournament and the Indian team is scheduled to start their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
As per the draft schedule, India’s matches are set to take place in Lahore, which is conveniently located near the Indian border. This makes it a feasible choice for hosting. Additionally, there are indications that one of India’s games, specifically against New Zealand, may be moved to Rawalpindi. Both cities are situated in Pakistan’s Punjab province, which directly borders India.
