Team India’s left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has hit back at an abusive post on social media following his performance in the 2023 World Cup final. The post was directed at him after India’s unexpected loss to Australia, which ended their near-perfect World Cup campaign.

Kuldeep, who had been instrumental in India’s journey to the final with 15 wickets leading up to the match, went wicketless in his 10 overs in the decider, conceding 56 runs. This performance led to a surge of criticism from fans on social media. He replied:

Hanji kis cheez ki dikkat hai apko, itna pyara likhne ke liye paise mile ya koi Jati dus mani hai (Yes, so, what’s bothering you so much? Did you get money to write such beautiful words, or do you have a personal hatred for me?)

Kuldeep was a key contributor, often picking up wickets at crucial junctures and ensuring India’s stronghold in the competition. However, the final was a different story, with India falling short of expectations as Australia chased down a modest 241-run target with six wickets in hand, winning comfortably.

The defeat, on November 19, 2024, marked a painful anniversary for the Indian team, as they reflected on what could have been a fairy-tale World Cup victory on home soil. Kuldeep’s frustrated reaction on social media highlights the pressure and scrutiny faced by players after a high-profile loss, especially after the team’s dominating performance throughout the tournament.
