After being sidelined for more than a year, Mohammed Shami is expected to make his highly anticipated return to international cricket during India’s upcoming white-ball series against England. Shami, who has not played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, has been recovering from a knee injury that followed his surgery.

Despite this setback, he has been actively playing in domestic cricket, including Bengal’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he will feature in an upcoming match against Haryana. The BCCI’s selection committee is closely monitoring Shami’s progress, and their members will attend his next match.

India’s series against England will consist of five T20Is and three ODIs, with the first T20I scheduled for January 22, 2025, in Kolkata. The ODIs will follow in February, with matches in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad.

Shami’s inclusion in the squad is contingent on his fitness, as the team also faces concerns over Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery from a back injury. With Akash Deep ruled out for a month, India will need to rely on Shami’s experience to strengthen their fast-bowling attack for the crucial series.
