KL Rahul Opens Up on Leaving LSG, Seeking Freedom and a Relaxed Team Atmosphere
India's top batter, KL Rahul, recently shared his thoughts on leaving Lucknow Super Giants before the IPL 2025 auction. Rahul subtly responded to team owner Sanjiv Goenka’s previous comment about wanting players with a winning mindset, hinting at possible differences between him and the franchise.
Lucknow Super Giants recently released their list of retained players, which did not feature their captain, KL Rahul. This decision means Rahul will now enter the auction as one of the marque Indian players, attracting significant attention from other franchises. His unexpected absence from the retained list added intrigue to the upcoming auction and sparked interest in his next move.
Responding to Sanjiv Goenka’s comments, KL Rahul shared that he’s looking to explore other options and play in a team that offers more freedom and a relaxed atmosphere. He expressed a desire to be in an environment where he feels comfortable and unrestricted, hinting that a lighter team culture is something he values for his future in the IPL.
While reacting to the comments made by Sanjiv Goenka, KL Rahul said:
“The decision was made already. I don’t know what the comments are but they must have come after the retentions were made. Just felt like I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options and I wanted to play somewhere I can find some freedom and team atmosphere would be something lighter, much more balanced, pressure is already very high in the IPL.”
During an IPL 2024 match between LSG and Gujarat Titans, team owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an intense on-field discussion with KL Rahul about the team’s poor performance.
