IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer Emerges as Top Contender in Mega Auction for KKR

With the IPL 2025 auction drawing closer, all ten teams are working on building their squads for the next season. Reports suggest that Kolkata Knight Riders are interested in bringing back Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer in the upcoming mega auction.

Despite winning the IPL 2024 title, Shreyas Iyer was let go by the Knight Riders. They kept core players like Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh. The defending champions now have 51 crore to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Shreyas Iyer is reportedly a top target for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 auction and they might bid aggressively for the Mumbai batter. However, they are expected to face tough competition from the Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Capitals have 73 crore left in their auction budget.

A report suggests that Kolkata Knight Riders are eager to bring back Shreyas Iyer. However, the team cannot use the Right to Match card to reacquire him, as they have already retained six players, including two uncapped ones, ahead of the auction.

In 2022, Shreyas Iyer was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for 12.5 crore and made the team’s captain. He scored 401 runs in 14 matches, averaging 30.85 with a strike rate of 134.56, including three fifties. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2023 season due to a back injury.
