IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant Breaks Silence on Delhi Capitals Exit Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction

Rishabh Pant, one of Indian cricket’s most prominent wicketkeeper-batters, has finally addressed his unexpected departure from Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Pant, a cornerstone of the DC lineup since 2016, was not retained by the franchise this season, sparking widespread speculation about the reasons behind the move.

Pant responded firmly to legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar’s allegations that he had demanded a higher salary to remain with the franchise. Refuting the claims, Pant stated that money was not a factor in his non-retention, hinting instead at deeper issues with the team management. He clarified in a statement:

My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say.

Delhi Capitals retained only four players for IPL 2025: Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel. With ₹73 crore left in their purse for the upcoming auction, DC is aiming for a significant reshuffle. However, Pant’s release raised eyebrows, given his pivotal role in shaping the franchise’s fortunes over the years.

Under Pant’s leadership, DC reached the playoffs in 2021 but failed to sustain that momentum. Reports suggest disagreements with the franchise owners over team strategies and the coaching structure contributed to his departure. Despite the fallout, he maintained his composure in interview.

Pant’s availability in the mega auction is expected to spark a bidding war, as franchises look to secure the services of a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter with proven match-winning abilities. His exit marks a significant shift in DC’s approach and raises questions about their plans for IPL 2025.
