IPL 2025: KKR CEO Venky Mysore Drops Hint About Ajinkya Rahane’s Captaincy Prospects
With Shreyas Iyer joining Punjab Kings for a record INR 26.75 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders face the crucial task of naming a new captain for IPL 2025. While Ajinkya Rahane has emerged as a strong contender for his vast experience which makes him an ideal candidate to lead the defending champions, KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore boiled the rumour with his recent statement.
The Kolkata Knight Riders are gearing up for IPL 2025 with a revamped squad but face a pivotal decision, naming their new captain. After letting go of Shreyas Iyer, who was snapped up by Punjab Kings for a staggering INR 26.75 crore, speculation has turned to Ajinkya Rahane as the frontrunner for the role.
Rahane, who previously represented KKR in IPL 2022, was reacquired at his base price of INR 1.5 crore in the recent auction. Known for his extremely calm body language and wealth of experience, Rahane’s leadership credentials are evident from his successful stints as India’s Test captain. His ability to maintain composure under pressure could prove invaluable for KKR as they aim to defend their title in the upcoming season.
KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore acknowledged the importance of this decision, stating that the team’s leadership group is thoroughly evaluating all options. He stated in his recent interview:
“Well, you know that. To be honest, we have to sit down and take stock. Sometimes what happens is, after you’ve done all of these things, you just have to sit down, reflect, and look at the whole thing. There are stakeholders, and parts of the think tank won’t be here. So, we’ll all sit down and have a proper chat about that, and I’m sure a proper decision will be made.”
While Rahane is seen as the most likely candidate, KKR’s final call will depend on a holistic assessment of team dynamics. Fans and analysts alike eagerly await the announcement, which could define KKR’s journey in IPL 2025.
