IPL 2025: Deepak Chahar Opens Up on IPL Departure Fitness Journey and Return to India Team
After the IPL 2025 mega auction, Deepak Chahar left Chennai Super Kings as Mumbai Indians outbid all other teams to sign him. Mumbai also added New Zealand pacer Trent Boult to their squad, aiming to strengthen their fast-bowling attack for the upcoming season.
Mumbai Indians paid INR 12.50 crore to acquire Trent Boult and INR 9.25 crore for Deepak Chahar in the IPL 2025 auction. This was a big setback for Chennai Super Kings as they had hoped to keep Chahar, who has been a key part of their bowling attack for many years.
Deepak Chahar has struggled with injuries in recent years but has been dedicated to getting back to full fitness. After the IPL 2024, he traveled to the UK for training with a top football club. He then returned to the Ranji Trophy, bowling over 150 overs in five matches. He is currently playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. He said:
After the last IPL season, I went to the UK for training. I was training with a big football club there. Then, I came back and played five Ranji Trophy matches, bowling about 150 overs. Now, I’m playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. So, I’ve been playing cricket regularly for the past six months, and I’ve been training well.
Chahar expressed his admiration for MS Dhoni, crediting his support for wanting to stay with Chennai Super Kings. However, he realized his return to the team was unlikely after his name came up late on day two of the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, last month.
