ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Aakash Chopra Explores Hosting Dilemmas and India’s Crucial Involvement Champions Trophy 2025
Aakash Chopra shared thoughts on how the Champions Trophy 2025 might be organized, scheduled for February-March. He dismissed the possibility of hosting the ICC 50-over tournament only in Pakistan without India taking part, emphasizing that such a scenario wouldn't work for the event.
Disagreements between the BCCI and PCB have delayed the Champions Trophy schedule. The BCCI has made it clear that India will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament, pointing to security concerns. As a result, the ICC is yet to finalize the event’s timeline, with uncertainty surrounding how the situation will be resolved.
Aakash Chopra discussed possible options for hosting the Champions Trophy 2025, outlining three scenarios. He highlighted that each choice comes with its own set of consequences and challenges, urging careful consideration before making a decision. He said:
In my opinion, only three options are there. Either Pakistan host it entirely at home without India, or be ready for the hybrid model, or else say they don’t want to play this tournament at all. Every action has a consequence.
Aakash Chopra pointed out that hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 entirely in Pakistan won’t work without India’s involvement. He stressed that the tournament’s financial success largely depends on India’s participation, making it a crucial factor for the event’s planning.
A hybrid model is being considered for the tournament, where India’s matches would take place in Dubai. However, Pakistan insists that future ICC events hosted by India follow the same arrangement. The PCB also wants all matches against India to be held at neutral venues until 2031.
