Former Selector Lashes Out at Prithvi Shaw for Neglecting Cricketing Legends’ Advice
Prithvi Shaw faces a tough phase in his career, going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction for the first time in eight years. A former BCCI selector criticized Shaw for ignoring advice from cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Ricky Ponting, pointing to fitness and discipline concerns as reasons for his decline.
Once considered the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw’s career has taken a challenging turn. The young batter, who burst onto the scene with a century on Test debut, is now grappling with fitness concerns and inconsistent performances. For the first time in eight years, Shaw found no bids at the IPL 2025 auction, even after setting a considerable base price of ₹75 lakh.
A former BCCI selector has publicly criticized Shaw for failing to heed the advice of cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, and Rahul Dravid during his IPL stint with the Delhi Capitals. The selector pointed out Shaw’s lack of progress and discipline despite access to such influential mentors. He remarked:
Prithvi has been in Delhi Capitals. In DC itself, he had a chance to interact with Rahul Dravid, who was also his U-19 India coach, Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly. It’s an open secret in Mumbai cricket that Tendulkar has also spoken to him. Are these legends fools? Do you see any change in him? Even if there is, it is not evident.
Shaw’s IPL form has also been underwhelming, with his last two seasons yielding just 304 runs in 16 matches. Released by Delhi Capitals, he now faces questions about his fitness, highlighted by his omission from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad due to a high body fat percentage.
Despite these setbacks, Shaw is representing Mumbai in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, showing glimpses of his talent with a 33-run knock in the opening match against Goa. With upcoming opportunities, Shaw has to prove his worth to turn his career from the deadend.
