The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 hangs in the balance following India’s security-driven refusal to play in Pakistan. Reports hint at a hybrid format, where India’s games could be hosted in Dubai, but no official confirmation has been issued. A recent broadcaster’s note, reportedly penned by Star India, underscores the tournament’s financial implications if either India or Pakistan pulls out.

According to sources, the ICC’s media rights deal with Star India accounts for 90% of the $750 million revenue, emphasizing India’s centrality to the tournament’s financial viability. This financial data could be the deciding factor for the final verdict as the officials will look for the ultimate success of the tournament. If India opts out, ICC members stand to lose nearly 90% of this amount. Conversely, if Pakistan withdraws, the financial impact would be less than 10% which is negligible in comparison to India’s walkout.

Industry insiders noted that the ICC has the authority to relocate the tournament if necessary, prioritizing the competition’s success. Source stated:

The ICC is well within its rights to shift the tournament to any country as long as it is in the best interests of the property. The decision is not so complicated as it is being made to look. There is no question of the tournament getting cancelled.

Meanwhile, concerns over the PCB’s stance on a reciprocal arrangement for the Asia Cup were dismissed, with sources clarifying that the Champions Trophy is an ICC matter, whereas the Asia Cup falls under the Asian Cricket Council.
