MS Dhoni Drops a Major Hint on his IPL Retirement

In the twilight of his cricketing career, MS Dhoni emphasized the importance of self-discipline and an innocent approach to the game. Speaking at an event on February 19, 2025, the former Indian captain, who remains the only skipper to win all ICC white-ball trophies, advised young cricketers to prioritize the sport over distractions. He highlighted how his strict routine, including sleep and training schedules, was centred around cricket, allowing him to consistently perform for India.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, continues to play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Reflecting on life post-retirement, the 43-year-old expressed his desire to enjoy the game with the same innocence he had as a child, comparing it to his colony days when 4 PM was dedicated to sports, whether cricket or football. He acknowledged that recapturing that carefree spirit is challenging but remains his goal. He said:

I’ve retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is I just want to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years, you know, I will be able to play.

They also mentioned Dhoni’s belief that representing India is a rare honour, urging young players to respect the opportunity.
